Gram Stain Bacteria Comparison Set - Live Culture

This Gram stain bacteria comparison set contains five live cultures selected specifically for teaching students to identify bacterium using the Gram staining technique, a common high school biology lab. You get one culture tube of each bacteria:

• Bacillus cereus (Gram-positive, rod-shaped)
• Branhamella catarrhalis (Gram-negative sphere-shaped)
• Micrococcus luteus (Gram-positive, sphere-shaped)
• Rhodospirillum rubrum (Gram-negative, spiral-shaped)
• Serratia marcescens (Gram-negative, rod-shaped)

Each culture comes in a test tube on agar media. These slant cultures are made with 5ml of agar that is rotated diagonally to provide the maximum surface area for the bacteria culture growth. The culture can be transferred with an inoculating needle. Each culture provides sufficient bacteria to streak 10-15 petri dishes, enough for a classroom of 30 students.

This set contains the live bacteria cultures only–order our Gram Stain Kit separately to perform the Gram staining technique.

Live cultures can be difficult to sustain. The culture will come with care instructions, but plan to use it within 1-2 days of arrival for best results. This item cannot be returned.
