Frog Specimen, Grass, 4"-4.5", Double Injected

This large preserved grass frog specimen measures 4" to 4.5" in body length. It's double injected, meaning the arteries are injected with red latex and veins are injected with blue latex to easily trace the vascular system. Its size makes the internal organs and external structures simple to locate and easy to identify. Genus is typically Rana forreri.

Frog dissections allow students to study a frog's external anatomy - such as the snout, forelimbs, hindlimbs, the webbing of the toes, and moist skin - as well as the complexities of a frog's internal body cavity. Beyond providing the opportunity to study physical anatomy, a frog dissection can even help students better understand aspects of frog reproduction (amplexus) and important life cycle stages, such as the transformation from tadpole to adult frog.

Note: Specimens are initially preserved with a formaldehyde solution, the best animal tissue fixative. The formaldehyde is then displaced first with water and finally with a glycol solution to produce frog specimens with moist skin and low-fumes. Due to this preservation technique, these specimens will not decay over time.

Once the original package is opened, use specimen within one month. For best results, observe the following storage procedures:

• Store specimen in heavy-duty, zip-lock bags to minimize drying between dissections.
• Specimen will slowly dry out or become contaminated in zip-lock bags; add a teaspoon of Specimen Holding Fluid to retain moisture.
• Freezing or refrigeration is not necessary and may damage fragile tissues.
